Music
Music is a core part of the SJEDS experience, centered around our weekly chapel services and woven throughout school life. Students learn to use their voices for worship and develop music as a meaningful form of expression and communication.
Beginning at age three, students receive weekly instruction focused on building foundational skills in rhythm, pitch, and motor development through engaging, hands-on learning.

Beginning at age three, students receive weekly instruction focused on building foundational skills in rhythm, pitch, and motor development through engaging, hands-on learning.
Students explore music through:
- Interactive activities, including games, movement, and classroom-integrated lessons
- Exposure to musical notation, including both representative and traditional forms
- Opportunities to connect music with classroom themes and cultural studies
- Participation in performances such as drama productions, Christmas programs, chapel services, and school assemblies
SJEDS also offers a wide range of instruments and equipment, including guitars, ukuleles, percussion instruments, Orff instruments, and a state-of-the-art sound system. All students receive instruction on these instruments during music classes, and by sixth grade, students are expected to read music and play across multiple instrument types.
